The agritouristic Orangia Farm is a newly established enterprise at an old family orchard of more than 20 acres at Lefkochori Village, Illia, Greece.

Welcome! We are Irene and Antonis, a newly-wed couple. We recently decided to leave the city’s demanding rhythms behind and return to the family’s ancestral orange grove, where they grew him with the planting of a thousand exotic trees of Pavlina. The entire estate now contains 2,000 trees. We decided to combine our love of nature and good cooking with Greek traditional hospitality. We are here to welcome you and offer you moments of relaxation, tranquility and carelessness, combined with a variety of activities, experiences and tastes.

Our farm’s history goes back some 350 years and the three different types of accommodation offered will cover all tastes as they meld together good aesthetics, comfort and privacy. In our retreat, the old blends in with the new and the variety of agrotouristic and other activities is vast. Our main goal is to introduce you to the beauties of our land, by offering guidance on the sights, archeological monuments, cultural and historical attractions, local and religious celebrations, fairs, festivals and the area’s natural beauty (beaches, waterfalls, forests, mountains etc.). We can also suggest various activities offered in abundance at the area (aerial yoga, watersports, rafting, surfing etc.) according to your personal taste and interests.

Proud of the various local delicacies of prime quality, we invite you to experience Greek traditional cooking by tasting products produced by either us or local producers.

Our hospitality is not limited in the house itself nor do we simply offer tasting and accommodation. Our goal is to introduce you to agricultural life and the “secrets” of the area in a way that only locals know.

If you are looking for a place to relax either short or long-term and are eager to form an experience comprising of numerous activities and flavours, we invite you to get to know us, our area and our traditions in a place you can only call home.

The Story

A land owned since the Ottoman Occupation

Orangia Farm is a newly-established agrotourism enterprise situated at an old family orchard at the village of Lefkochori in Ilia, Greece.
Belonging to the family since the times of the Ottoman Empire,
Orangia Farm’s current 5 hectars area is but a fragment of the large estate owned by the Diamantopoulos family in the 18th century. The family, being among the powerful land-owners in the area, played an important role in the Revolution of 1821 leading to Greek independence. In the years that followed, they held on to their land which, though divided amongst various heirs, are still under their ownership for the most part. Although many family members pursued careers in medicine, law, banking and education, they remained actively involved in the farm turning it into one of the most significant farms in the Mediterranean by the middle of the 20th century.. Today, the youngest Diamandopoulos generation, represented by Antonis, a trained aerospace engineer, is here to retell an age-old story in a new way.

A theatrical recreation of a picturesque folklore village

Bearing the farm’s history in mind, Antonis and Irene opted for an approach that accentuates simple country-living, while letting guests in on small family tales. All three units combine local architectural elements with small touches of the cosmopolitan -a witness to the family’s travels both within Greece and Europe.

Get to know our area

The area around the farm offers various possibilities for outdoor activities depending on the time of the year. In the summer months the obvious and most satisfactory choice is the sea. One of Greece’s famous beaches is situated at only 10 kilometers from the farm. The beach is hundreds of kilometers long and is embellished with dunes and pine trees. A dive in its crystal-clear waters will make you leave long winters behind and delve into the bliss of endless Greek summers. The number of beaches at a short drive from the farm is literally endless and transfer can be arranged. .

A keen hiker and cyclist himself, Antonis will be happy to advise or escort mountain-lovers to the beautiful nearby forests and waterfalls.

The area is teeming with classical, medieval and neoclassical buildings for those wishing to explore the glorious Greek past. The ruins of Ancient Olympia and famous Byzantine chapels are but a few of the sighs in the surrounding areas. For the so-inclined, qualified experts will give you lectures and tours on history, archaeology and the natural surroundings.

Plays, dance shows and festivals take place on certain times of the year and receive great attention.
Irene offers Greek cooking lessons where you can cook with -and obviously get a taste of- products produced either in the farm itself or by our neighbours.

The area is famous for its wines, so if you happen to visit us during autumn you can participate in the grape harvesting –and learn about the process of transforming grape into wine in local selected wineries. Our farm is at its best in winter, especially between the end of November and December as its one and a half thousand oranges are ripe and ready to be collected. Feel free to participate in the harvesting and taste as many oranges as you can. The avocados are in season and those of you staying in the tree-house built on top of them can literally reach out and pick avocados from the house’s patio.
Those of you who happen to visit us during the olive harvesting, will get to experience a century-old Greek practice. You are invited to participate in the harvesting, follow the crop’s course to the local original pressing and taste the fresh olive oil – an opportunity not to be missed. If you haven’t made up your mind about the time of the year you want to visit us, please contact us and we will provide you with our monthly schedule.
